First thing, price , leg space, comfort & food ...All 4 it is difficult to get the best.
Cheapest would be air India. However service/food is bad. Also they keep changing schedule.
Singapore airlines/Cathay pacific service/food is good. Leg space is also better and
priced slightly higher than AIr India.
So I recommend these 2 (Singapore/Cathay)

If you don't mind sharing, what is the date on the RFE letter?
9/2. Recvd in mail on 9/8. Replied on 9/11. Recvd at TSC on 9/15. Status changed to 'processing resumed' 9/17.

Does that mean we are no more after the goal of I-485 provision (attached to appropriation bills in Feb) due to lack of contributions? There has been several posts even in other forums saying that IV has dropped this goal, and I tried quite a few times now to get some form of confirmation/denial from any of the core members, but without any luck yet. Also logiclife's announcement was removed from the home page!!
It does mean that me need more funds. IV has not announced it has dropped the I485 idea. Now a lot depends on us, the members.

I am wondering if there is a potential issue for the applications filed between July 3rd to july 17th. This is the period when everything was in limbo. Is there any disadvantage for these folks?
So far I haven't seen anyone getting checks cashed or recipted in this period. We do see July 2nd notices comming in.
I had my 485 application received at NSC on July 3rd. And now we are hearing that they may transfer cases to TSC if I-140 was approved from there. Another delay! This wait is getting me restless.
I don't think we need to worry about July3-17 cases, and July3rd application is not any different from the July2nd application, except the fact that there was a one day delay. :) This is my take on this issue:
According to Jan Pederson, NSC received roughly 35,000 applications in first two days of July.07. As of 08/03/2007, USCIS completed receipt entry for the I-485 applications received till 07/01/2007. If we ASSUME USCIS enters roughly 4000--which could be too high, I believe--I-485 applications a day, it requires atleast 9 working days to complete the receipt entry of July2nd applications. i.e by Aug.16th, USCIS would have entered all of the July2nd applications, and from Aug.17th , they would start working on July 3rd applications.
Secondly, while processing the July2nd applications, USCIS doesn't give any priority to the actual time the applications were received. That is why some of us raise our eyebrows as to how the 11.30am filer gets the receipt notice before the 7.55am filer receives the same.
Again, it is just based on my personal observation.:)

Sounds like someone at SSN office who may not know much about immigration.
If your I 797 came with attached I94, then you certainly can apply for SSN card. Just ask for supervisor at the SS office and talk to them.
If your I 797 does not have attached I 94 (meaning that you are still in H4 status), then I do not know for sure what the procedure would be to apply for SS card.

Now , am in the second category..Have an H1 but my i94 is on H4 stamping ..I hold an Indian passport , do you know if i should get the H1 stamping (first time stamping) in India or can i conveniently get it done in Canada?
If your H1 approval notice did not come with the I-94 printed on it, then Canada is definitely an option to get it stamped, however its always better to get the first time stamping done in your home country.
You could also get your status changed while in US, but that would take additional fees and time. Speak to your H1-b sponsor about it.
btw, I would still check the approval notice to make sure that notice does not have an I-94 printed on the bottom of it. The I-94 printed at the bottom of the notice will have the same I-94 number as the one you have stapled to your passport, but will now have your status as H1 instead of H4.

My view is little different, my friend(32 age) who is a business man (an engineer and MBA)..went with his wife and two kids to b2 stamping, got multiple entry visa for 10 yrs. His preparation is very simple, he showed his business commitments and need of his presence to the businesses he is handling and second..he could convince the consulate that he is visiting to US for the sake of kids enjoy desney...he previously visited s'pore and klm...
if your folks are doing a honest visit..i would suggest them not to show any siblings in US and they show their ability to fund their trip and a convincing reason..(like second honeymoon...or any business conference)...and i remind you there is no set pattern that a few will get and a few won't get...its all up to how you present your case....goodluck

I'm going to meet the lawyer to see what is the option here. But what is the best thing to do ...go back to India and get the H4 or apply the cos from h1->H4 from here?

Glad to see your initiatives. But our focus should be different.
The Economy is in very bad shape. Unemployement is rising. At this moment any bill that ask for GC number increase won't pass. We need to wait for atleast few months.
In the meantime as a temprory releif we should push the "Country quoto elimination bill" that does not increase GC numbers.
Also please take a look at my plan that I presented couple of weeks earlier. It is a compromise bill and I feel it has the best chance to pass during lameduck session. My plan gives at least some releif to people waiting for 7 years or waiting for months with PD current.
Please keep the spirit alive. Thanks.

Can any body in the forum please confirm that it is possble to get a F1 in a part-time program. I plan to soon start a masters part-time program with an accredited university.
In the middle of the program, is it possible for me to move from H1 to F1 if I can prove that I will take a full course load ( 12 credits or whatever be the requirement)..The university does alow me to increase course work as per my desire..
Has any one gone thru this process or know for sure that it can be done...

stylepoet, I am no lawyer but I still think you can totally resolve this thing with a very good immigration lawyer instead of lobbying for a law change. If you wait around for legislative changes you may wind up waiting forever. Look at us. A multi-million dollar lobby like Compete America (which represent Fortune 500s like Microsoft, Google, Oracle, etc.) have been working towards some of the same goals we have been trying to achieve for the last 4-5 years, and either of us can hardly get anything done in Congress.
Compared to the legal limbo we are in, your case really isn't that difficult. I am not trying to condescend you or anything but you my friend need to get a better lawyer if your current one is telling you that your case it stuck. It isn't! There are a lot of things you can do to manage your transition from E2 to EB5.
One of the things you can do is convert your college-going daughter's status to F-1 (by getting a I-20) perhaps temporarily while you sell your business and apply for EB5. I know someone who was already in the US in May/June but his H1 didn't start till Oct and he didn't want to leave and re-enter becoz of embassy hassles back in his home country, so he applied for a Master's from a university and got an I-20 pretty quickly which helped him bridge the gap between June and Oct (he had to study full-time ofcourse to maintain status during that bridge-time). Another way to avoid missing school, is to do this over next summer when both of your daughters will be off for summer break...
Once your kids turn 21 they will age out anyway. Meaning they will have to pursue their own green cards. So if you want them to get their green cards as your dependants you really need to move now. Take it from us. You really don't want to wait around for law changes!!

We have two sons in England, one of whom is going through the E2 application process, and two daughters, one at University and one in high school. We would all like to stay permanently, but in order to raise the money for EB5, we would have to sell our business and that would put us in breach of our visa conditions.
The half-centrury old E2 laws need to be updated to reflect the valuable economic input of investors. It is unrealistic to expect people to come here, settle their families and run successful businesses for a few years and then go home. Most decide they would like to stay but have no path to GC.
We can't just leave the country and start again because of our daughters' education. Feels like catch 22, but I believe reform is the way forward.

As the discussion of immigration bills is heating up, we have a need for a format of email (preferably culled from immigration voice home page). We need to continue the media contact blitz because many of these media folks don't know the issues pertaining the legal immigrants; in particular GC and I-485 issues.
I have already emailed this idea to 'contact us' email of immigration voice.

I know someone who got 140 approved with MS+1. Were you a test engineer or a "Software Engineer in Test". In companies like Msft, Google and a few others the "Software Engineer in Test" people write more code than the Developers. In those cases, they can say that they did code development. I'm not sure if that would apply to your case.
Also, in big companies(at least in mine) and I know at least one more, they do not give the job description when you talk to HR for a letter. They give a letter saying Mr/Ms xx worked in our company from date x to date x. That's it. So the question is in those cases how to get a job description letter. I have heard people getting letters from colleagues certifying their work experiences. So if you have a colleague who can certify the coding you did and if your company does not give the job description but only your period of work, you can combine the two letters and apply for EB2.
