OUT 848 ILLIMO BITZ (ADDITIONS AND CHANGES)

HAPPY 5th ANNIVERSARY, OUTTOWN! ITS THURSDAY!

TIME TO GET TOWNED!

BLIND PICZWe don’t know what is goin on in this pic, but we are sure that the OUTCAM just took this pic in a weird angle. But anyway, who were these two brothers holding a convo at Lola’s recently?

As Black Music Month came to a close in June, we wanted to tag on one more featured artist from the ILLIMO area . And that person is Grammy Award winning singer Billy Davis, Jr.

Born in St. Louis, Davis is an
African American musician, best known as a member of The 5th Dimension. Along with his wife, Marilyn McCoo, he had hit records during 1976 and 1977 with I Hope We Get to Love in Time, Your Love, and You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show). Davis and McCoo were married in 1969 and were the main entertainers of a television program, The Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. Show, in 1977. That same year, You Don't Have to Be a Star won a Grammy Award.

During the 1990s, they performed a concert tour called It Takes Two, consisting of covers of old soul successes. He was recently inducted on the St. Louis Walk of Fame, along with the survivors of the Fifth Dimension

Here is a snippet of his biggest hit, “You Don’t Have to be a Star,” with his wife Marilyn Mccoo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieBSBIuFuN8

This week in the ILLMO newz the big newz story is:

The Blago trial moves on as the FBI tapes are continuing to be played on former Illinois Governor’s alleged senate seat bribe case. The biggest find was where he had a discussion about having Chitown talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey fill the open Senate seat once held by now President Barack Obama.

According to reports, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich called Oprah Winfrey a kingmaker who could influence voters as he mulled naming the talk show host to President Barack Obama's former Senate seat, according to an FBI tape played Monday at his corruption trial.

"She made Obama, she's up there so high nobody could assail this pick," Blagojevich is heard telling his chief of staff, John Harris, who is now a prosecution witness.

Blagojevich had mentioned in TV interviews last year that Winfrey's name had come up in discussions about the seat. Winfrey said last year that she was "amused" by the revelation and that she was unaware at the time that she was under consideration.

On the tape played Monday, Harris says picking Winfrey would be a mistake and he is "not sure what she stands for." Blagojevich brushes such concerns aside, saying she was obviously a Democrat and her support in the 2008 election had "made Obama."
But a few minutes later, Blagojevich is heard complaining that he needs more potential candidates. Like Obama family friend Valerie Jarrett, and Democratic U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.,

Man talk about scheming. Politics is a dirty business, but hey, Blago isnt the only one ever to get his hands dirty, right?

And speaking of Oprah, there have been rumors that her contest to choose a talk show host for her upcoming network OWN was rigged. She has been accused of fraudulent conduct in her ‘Search for the Next TV Star.’ Reports have been running rampant on the web-o-sphere suggesting how Oprah’s
network, OWN, manipulated vote results.

But it has been found that a set of spam blogs is actually behind that vote-rigging.
People were asked to vote online and choose one capable candidate on ‘Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star,’ who would get to host a show on OWN.
Over 10,000 hopefuls participated through online audition tapes and open casting calls at four Kohl's stores. The number would eventually go down to 10 finalists chosen by online votes and by judges from the live castings.

According to the online votes, the two top contenders were Phyllis Wick-Turner, an African American Florida college professor, and Zach Anner, a white 25-year-old from Austin.

Then the race card came about through Anner fans. As long as Anner stayed on the top, everything was running smooth but when Phyllis’ votes started surging, Anner fans accused the network of foul play. They accused the show-makers of racial discrimination.

Well, well, well, I must say anything can be called what its called based on who think is there. We think that Oprah is not doing anything with this and onliners just need to get a life.

In unrelated Oprah news, she was recently named the most powerful person in the world by Forbes Magazine.
The world yawl. The world!

Chitown native and award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson’s “Behind the Music” aired Monday on VH1 chronicling her rise to stardom and her tragedies with her family and her personal life. On the show she finally opened up about her family tragedy with her mother, brother and nephew in Oct 2008.
“It was surreal,” she said. “It was like I was outside of myself.”
The three were shot by William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia. In the weeks following, the Oscar-winner said she went into complete seclusion to cope with her grief.
"For almost two weeks straight . . . [I was] inside one room with just family and friends coming in and out," she says. "I prayed when I'd get up in the morning and prayed before I laid down at night."
“I didn't watch any TV, I didn't even want to know what was going on because I had more than enough to deal with... I prayed when I got up in the morning and prayed before I laid down at night. If I didn't, I'd wake up depressed." she said.

The big STl newz stories are sports related.
Award winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and his producing partner, Lynn Novick, were in St. Louis for a few days this week to pitch "The Tenth Inning," a four-hour extension of their massive series "Baseball." During his stay, Burns, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Busch Stadium Monday night before the Cardinals' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He reportedly wore a Cardinals game jersey with "Burns" and "10" (for "The Tenth Inning") on the back. And on his jacket was pinned a "Stand for Stan" button marking the campaign to get a Medal of Freedom for Stan Musial.
The "Baseball" documentary aired in 1994, but the extra footage from 1994 to the present will include more on Latino players, the Mark McGwire-Sammy Sosa home run race and the steroid-use controversy. The extra footage will air on PBS Sept. 28-29.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of baseball., Cardinals first baseman and three-time NL Most Valuable Player Albert Pujols will not participate in the All Star Home Run Derby this year that will be held July 13 at Angles Stadium in Anaheim despite of leading in the fan vote.
"I did it three times and I enjoyed it," Pujols said. "I don't feel like I want to do it this year."
Last year, the all star game was held in St. Louis and Pujols was torn as to whether to participate in the derby or not, but did it anyway just because it was held at his Cardinals home, Busch Stadium but a a result, it caused his performance at the actual game and post All Star games to suffer.
Hmm, peer pressure is a mutha. If he didn’t do it in his Cardinals home, then he would have been ridiculed by his fans and never would have lived it down. And having people say, “If Stan Musial or Ozzie Smith were playing, they would have done it.”

Newbie hip hop artist B.o.B. will perform Aug. 3 at Six Flags St. Louis. The concert is free with park admission or season pass.
This story was supposed to be flip flopped with the one below. My bad.

In other sports newz, tennis superstar, Venus Williams, will make an appearance in St. Louis for two events,. First, a book signing. On July 10, she'll be in St. Louis to promote her just-published book "Come to Win," about how playing sports helped people such as Condoleezza Rice and Vera Wang later in their careers.
The event will be at 12:30 p.m. at the downtown Left Bank Books, 321 North 10th Street.
Williams also will be playing in the St. Louis Aces tourney along with tennis stars Anna Kournikova and Martina Hingis.
Oh and the booksigning will have rules for those who think they can come and gaze,
Here are some of the event guidelines from Left Bank:
Venus will not pose for pictures, but pictures can be taken from the line, mo memorabilia will be signed, Only books purchased from Left Bank Books will be signed, there is no limit on the number of books per person (uh ya think? )m Venus will only sign her name, no personalizations.
and this is a book signing only; there will not be a talk.

Got it? We guess. But we are sure someone will forget. LOL

Two establishments had their grand openings on the same block at different dates, one at its original spot and the other moved to another spot.

Copia had its Re-Grand Opening sneak peak June 17 where invited guests Guests got a glance of the all-new restaurant before the doors open to the public on June 25. Located at 11th and Washington in downtown St Louis, Copia burned down in December 2007 causing couple million in damages after a disgruntled ex-employee set it on fire (who was sentenced to five years for the blaze in 2009) .

AND

Ozzies Sports Bar and Restaurant had its grand opening June 21 where the namesake, Cardinals baseball legend Ozzie Smith, did a live remote broadcast with KMOX and ESPN with Demarco Farr. Located at 15th and Washington Ave., the spot had a soft opening in April. It moved from its original spot in Westport Plaza in 2008 after Pujols 5, Albert Pujols Sports Bar and Restaurant brought in forced competition and its lease was expiring which resulted in a lawsuit from the owner of the property (not Ozzie Smith) regarding bringing in a competitive sports bar.
